Chippewa Campsite Refurbishment
The first of five campsites rebuilt from bare ground — all new tent platforms, stone work, and a 20-by-28-foot pavilion, finished in time for summer camp.

Chippewa is the first campsite in the five-year plan, and the most ambitious single piece of work Friends of Camp Mack has taken on.
The site was stripped of everything but its latrine in the autumn of 2025. What replaces it is being built from scratch.
The sequence
- Winter. Tent platforms are built off-site through the cold months, so that nothing waits on carpentry once the ground opens up.
- Early spring. Site work begins as soon as the ground has thawed enough — smoothing the area, removing stumps, and positioning the platforms properly. Several of the sites slope badly enough that platform placement is a safety question, not just a tidiness one.
- Spring. Platforms placed, then stone work completed around them.
- Before June. A 20-by-28-foot pavilion constructed in the site.
All of it has to be finished in time to set up canvas tents and cots for summer camp 2026.
We need help
This is a lot of work for a volunteer organization and it will not happen without members turning out. Platform building over the winter, site work in the spring, and the pavilion build are all jobs where extra hands make a direct difference.
The Spring Service Day on April 11 and the FOCM Fridays through the first half of the year are the easiest ways in.
