Gutting the Old Health Lodge
Over twenty members stripped a vacant building back to its frame in a single day, to find out whether it was worth saving. It was.

When the Health Lodge moved to the Camp Office, the old building was left sitting vacant. The structure looked sound from outside, but the inside was worn out and unusable, and nobody could say with confidence what condition it was really in.
The only way to find out was to open it up.
One day, one building
On Saturday, October 7, more than twenty members gutted it. The demolition took out the old bathroom and shower, the kitchen, the interior walls, the floor tiles, and two separate layers of ceiling and insulation. It filled a large dumpster.
Everyone was surprised by how good the structure underneath turned out to be.
What it could become
With the building proven sound, Friends of Camp Mack proposed converting it into a S.T.E.M. lab for the summer camp program — a permanent home for the science and technology sessions the staff had been running out of a program area started the year before.
