Cherokee Campsite Platform Removal

By the autumn of 2022 the tent platforms across camp had reached the point where patching was no longer enough. Decking had bowed, framework had failed, and several sites needed to be taken back to bare ground before anything could be rebuilt.

Close to twenty members turned out on Saturday, October 22 and split into three groups.

What each group took on

• Campsite platforms. The first phase of the restoration: removing bowed and damaged platform decking and tent tubing framework from several locations, hauling it to the dumpster, and cleaning up the disturbed sites. Significant progress was made in Cherokee, readying it for the summer 2023 season.
• Maintenance complex. Collecting trash and debris from the maintenance area, Main Pavilion and cabins, and organizing the storage yard to make room for a building project the Order of the Arrow would complete in the same location.
• Trading Post, program closets and old Health Lodge. Inventory and cleaning, and a great deal more material for the dumpster.

Thanks again to GFL Environmental for donating the dumpster and the disposal costs. By the end of the day it was full.

Members worked until noon, broke for lunch from the catering team, held the annual membership meeting — and then several went back out to keep working.
